Intentional Interiors – Environmental Practices at Beaufort

Furnishings that Last

Furnishings that Last

‘Fast fashion’ is a hot-topic issue at the moment, but it goes beyond clothes – we could just as easily talk about the issue of ‘fast furnishings’ - but at Beaufort we do things differently. Everything that we make at Beaufort is made to order, minimising waste. Furthermore, we prioritise quality, meaning that our products regularly adorn our clients’ homes for decades, which again reduces waste and avoids overproduction. Additionally, we often repair, re-cover, or adjust in creative ways when possible, which allows our customers to retain their existing furnishings. Often this can be both cheaper for our customer, and better for the environment.

Lean Manufacturing

In terms of our factory processes, we seek to minimise waste, and constantly try to improve our practices to be as environmentally conscious as possible. For example, we use any unused materials to make cushions, or package for sale in our factory shop. We donate furniture which is removed from the showroom or clients’ homes to local charities, such as our local ‘compassion team’. We re-utilise as much of the packaging used to protect and transport products as possible, and recycle all our cardboard through Huhtamaki, our neighbouring packaging producer.

Environmentally Conscious Suppliers

Environmentally Conscious Suppliers

Many of our suppliers have extensive and productive environmental policies. For example, Porada one of our primary hardwood furniture suppliers, only use sustainably sourced timber. Another of our top brands: Poliform, who are a major player in the international interiors industry, has taken extensive actions to investigate, and address waste and emissions from their factories. Textile brands such as Osborne & Little, Designer’s Guild, and Omexco make fabrics and wallcoverings from recycled materials, offcuts from the fashion industry, and offcuts from the production of saris.

When you buy from Beaufort Interiors, you are buying intentionally and consciously created products which will last, and which have been produced with both your satisfaction and environmental sustainability in mind.
